UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF THE SEAT YOU WANT

One of the easiest ways for an aspirant to lose credibility is to promise things that the office they are seeking cannot actually deliver.
Before campaigning for any position, understand its legal responsibilities.
An MCA does not have the same powers as an MP.
An MP does not perform the same role as a governor.
A senator has different responsibilities from a county executive.
A president operates at a completely different level.
Yet during campaigns, aspirants often promise everything to everyone.
Roads.
Jobs.
School fees.
Hospitals.
Water.
Business funding.
Security.
Personal assistance.
Some of those issues may fall outside the authority of the office being contested.
That creates unrealistic expectations.
A serious aspirant should be able to explain:
What this office can do.
What this office cannot do.
What requires legislation.
What requires a budget.
What requires another level of government.
What requires cooperation with other institutions.
That knowledge protects both the aspirant and the voter.
Do not build your campaign around promises that sound good today but become excuses tomorrow.
Know the seat.
Know its powers.
Know its limits.
Then make promises you can defend and pursue.
Credibility begins before election day.
