NEVER BURN EVERY BRIDGE

Politics is full of disagreements.

Today someone may oppose you.
Tomorrow you may need to work together on an issue affecting the same people.

That is why a serious political aspirant must learn the difference between:

Disagreement and permanent hostility.

You can challenge someone’s ideas without destroying the relationship.

You can negotiate without surrendering your principles.

You can lose a nomination and still remain relevant.

You can leave a meeting without getting everything you wanted and still return to the table tomorrow.

One recurring lesson from political life is simple:

Relationships are political capital.

Before attacking everyone around you, ask yourself:

Will I need to work with this person later?

Could this person become an ally on another issue?

Am I disagreeing with their position—or destroying a relationship because of emotion?

Politics changes quickly.

Today’s opponent can become tomorrow’s negotiating partner.

Today’s junior leader can become tomorrow’s decision-maker.

Today’s unknown volunteer can become tomorrow’s influential organizer.

So build your name carefully.

Be firm.

Be clear.

But do not become known as the person who destroys every relationship whenever things fail to go their way.

A long political career requires bridges, not only battles.
