NEVER MAKE A PROMISE AND FORGET IT

During a campaign, people will approach you with many concerns.

A youth group may request a meeting.

A trader may raise a licensing problem.

A community may ask about water.

A school may raise an infrastructure issue.

A resident may simply ask you to return with an answer.

The easiest response is:

“We will follow up.”

The difficult part is actually following up.

That is where trust is built or destroyed.

Your campaign should have a simple system for recording:

Who raised the issue.

What the issue was.

Where it came from.

Who is responsible for following up.

What response was given.

Whether the matter was completed or still pending.

Do not depend on the candidate remembering everything.

Do not depend on WhatsApp messages getting buried in hundreds of chats.

Do not make commitments that disappear after the meeting ends.

Even when you cannot solve an issue, communicate.

Tell people what happened.

Explain what can and cannot be done.

Give updates.

People may understand that you cannot solve every problem.

What damages trust is promising to return and never returning.

A serious campaign should leave every meeting with:

Issues recorded.
Responsibilities assigned.
Follow-up dates agreed.
Feedback given.

Because leadership is not only about making promises.

It is about remembering them.
