LISTEN BEFORE WRITING YOUR MANIFESTO

A manifesto should not begin in a boardroom.

It should begin with listening.

Before telling people what you will do for them, understand what they actually need.

Visit communities.

Talk to traders.

Listen to young people.

Talk to teachers, farmers, business owners, professionals and community leaders.

Ask:

What is making life difficult here?

What has been promised before but never delivered?

Which problems can this particular office realistically address?

What should be handled first?

Then document what you hear.

Look for patterns.

Separate individual requests from wider community problems.

And build your priorities around evidence.

A manifesto written only by consultants can sound impressive.

A manifesto built from real community concerns can become a governing roadmap.

Do not campaign with assumptions.

Listen first.

Then make commitments you understand and can explain.

Because leadership should begin with the people you want to serve.
