Many people want political positions.
Few take time to understand the responsibility behind those positions.
Before asking people to elect you, learn:
How government works.
How budgets are prepared.
How public money is allocated.
What your office can legally do.
What your office cannot do.
How policies are made.
How development projects are approved and implemented.
A leader who does not understand the system can easily make promises that are impossible to deliver.
That is dangerous because voters may judge you by promises you never had the power to fulfil.
A serious aspirant should know the difference between:
Campaign promises and actual government responsibilities.
Do not only prepare speeches.
Prepare yourself.
Read.
Ask questions.
Understand the Constitution, public finance, procurement, county and national government structures, and the responsibilities attached to the seat you want.
Because winning an election gives you a position.
Knowledge determines what you do with it.
The best time to learn how leadership works is not after you are elected.
It is before you ask people to trust you with power.
